Why I love Disney
There is nothing more I’d rather do on a Friday night than cuddle up with a glass of wine, a bowl of popcorn, and watch a Disney movie.
At some point, our society decided that Disney, specifically animation, was something that was designated for children. I believe that as we grow up we lose the sense of wonder in the world- we start seeing the world through the lens of ‘that’s just the way it is’ instead of looking at all possibilities. The world becomes less colourful and turns into a world that is black and white.
My love of Disney isn’t just the movies though- I believe in many of the messages Disney sends.
‘Keep Moving Forward’
As Walt Disney himself once said:
Around here we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
Disney reminds me to keep positive and to keep looking forward to the future. We can so easily become compliant in our life instead of pushing ourselves to achieve our ultimate goals.
‘If you dream it- you can achieve it’
I’ve always dreamt big. As an entrepreneur, I believe anything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard. This message is portrayed in many different Disney movies. Moana’s lead character crosses oceans to save her community, Tiana from ‘Princess and the Frog’ overcomes societal obstacles while learning to balance hard work and love, and Zootopia’s Judy Hopps follows her dream to become a police officer, even when everyone said she couldn’t. These are just a handful of lessons learned from Disney Movies.
In addition to the movies, we can’t forget the companies history. Disney was founded by one man who had an idea. The company is now one of the largest entertainment companies in the world owning Marvel, Pixar, ESPN, and A&E.
Escape from Reality
We all have daily stress that we deal with. Money problems, work issues, a fight with our significant other, a bad grade on a report card, watching wars and terror on the news, and the list goes on and on. It can be overwhelming and cause us to lose any positive outlook on life. Believe me, I have had my fair share of things that distract and discourage me. But this is why I so dearly love all things Disney. For a brief moment in time, I have been swept away to a world where anything is possible, and Magic is real.
Never stop imagining
Finally, Disney reminds us to never stop imagining. As Walt once said ‘That’s the real trouble with the world.Too many people grow up’. So I encourage you to never stop imagining, never give up on your dreams, and never think you are too old to enjoy the simple things.
